a mysterious supermassive black hole

During the lockdown in 2020 Sadie recorded her 44min A-level webinar about her PhD research on this mysterious black hole.
You can watch it HERE on YouTube.
My research is on the supermassive black holes at the centres of galaxies, specifically those which have active centres, which means they look very bright across all wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. My work specifically looks at the X-ray radiation from the region around the Active Galactic Nucleui (AGN) usually associated with the accretion disc and the Radio emission produced my strong magnetic fields near the black hole, usually associated with a jet which is perpendicular to the plane of the galaxy.

I have two published papers in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS) which investigate the possible Radio/X-ray correlation that exists between disc and jet emission in the AGN called NGC 4051 The link to my scientific papers on NGC 4051 are here: Paper 1 & Paper 2

I also have a public talk (suitable for year 7 and above) that I regularly present on my research, the talk is called ‘A Mysterious Supermassive Black Hole’. I recently presented this talk at the Winchester Science Festival to a sell out crowd (see picture opposite). If you are interested in having me present this talk at your event please contact me here.
